What Is An Essential Oil And What Should You Use Them For

Essential oils have been used for generations, if not for thousands of years.  An essential oil is a natural oil that is obtained by distillation and having the characteristic smell of the plant or other source from which it is extracted.

In other words, an essential oil comes from a plant or similar natural product and the oil is extracted from the herb or plant.

Not all essential oils are created the same way and it is important when you buy our oils that you do a little bit of research and know what you are buying.  You can buy oils from health stores and you can buy them online.  They come in all shapes and sizes, as oils, lotions, roll ons, in the form of a butter and also as sprays.

Oils can be used by adults and children alike.  Again, do your research as kids may need smaller quantities or slightly more diffused oils.  The packaging or instructions with your oil will tell you how to use it and how much of it to use.

Adding a few drops of an oil to your bath can leave you with delicious soft skin, a relaxed and peaceful mind and help you sleep.  Plus your bathroom and you will smell very nice afterwards.

Oils are lovely to use in the home and to also purify your home.  Instead of using harsh cleaning products look for the oils that are helpful with home domesticity.  There are products, plant, herb and oil based, that you can use to clean sticky messes and dirty surfaces.  They are much healthier than the products you buy off the shelf in the supermarket, without any added chemicals.

Essential oils can help with your daily beauty routine and skin.  Oils have been known to help with the anti-ageing process, with acne and problem skin.  Oils are also a lot less expensive than some of the very well-known cosmetic brands.  They work in a different way but they work well.

Spiritual Ceremonies

Think of the religious or spiritual ceremonies that you have attended in your life.  Incense or burning oils have always played an important role.  These oils stimulate olfactory receptors and activate regions in the brain that are associated with memory, emotion and state of mind.  It is a good idea, when you are praying, meditating or perhaps at yoga, that you burn some incense or use some oils.  You may also want to dab oil on your wrists, feet or behind your ears, inhale and breathe in.

Headaches plague all of us and it’s very easy to swallow two tablets and then another two in a few hours.  Try an oil.  Check which ones are good for headaches. Breathe them in, dab them on, or rub them your temples.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
