Where to get avocados?
Your local grocery store, health store or supermarket should sell them as long as they are in season. Out of season, avocados can be expensive. Always feel your avocado before you buy it. If they feel too soft and it is easy to push through the skin, rather don’t buy it. Or buy it and use it for guac. It is best to buy an avo that is a little bit hard and wait for it to ripen.
Avocados are used a lot in Mexican food recipes. Guacamole is served with nachos, tacos and tostadas and enchiladas. Here is a nice guac recipe,
- Three avocados, peeled, pitted and mashed
- Two diced roma plums.
- One teaspoon minced garlic.
- One teaspoon salt.
- Half a cup diced onion.
- Three tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro.
- One juiced lime.
- Pinch pepper.
Peel and pip the avocados, mash them with a fork and add the lime juice and salt. In a bowl mix in the onion, cilantro, tomatoes and garlic. Stir in the pepper. Keep i the fridge for one hour for the best flavour or serve immediately.
You can never have too much guacamole.
There are also people who believe that the avocados is an aphrodisiac. The word avocado comes from the Nahautl word, meaning testicle. This comes from the shape of an avocado, the somewhat rounded pear shape.
Avocados are good for everyone. If you can get your children to eat them from a young age, good health will follow. Pregnant women are encouraged to eat avocados, in fact everyone is encouraged to eat avocados. There are even online stores that will deliver the humble avocado to your home.
