What should I dance? — Many have the same question in their minds especially happens with the beginners. Don’t worry; your teacher will take care of it. Your teacher will lead you through a series of choreographed steps. The focus might be on the footwork, but the series of leaps, turns, shimmies, and cha-chas engage the entire body.
Dancing can be done competitively and socially. At the beginning, learn the various steps to make yourself flexible to dance and more comfortable, later you can go up for some real dance like practising for events and other activity clubs. You can join anywhere, in your school dance club or in the dance classes. If you learn by your own than it’s too good. You can learn any type anytime and it will be a great exercise to your body and remain fit all day.
Types of dances
Ballet – mostly performed to classical music, this dance style focuses on strength, technique and flexibility. Classical music is a very old tradition and especially popular in the south-eastern countries. Special skills like the control of emotions, footwork are required. These skills are stressed upon and are practised regularly.
Ballroom dancing – this involves a number of partner-dancing styles such as the waltz, swing, foxtrot, rumba and tango. This dance is generally performed by everyone with their couples, mostly seen in the parties.
Belly dancing – originating in the Middle East, this dance style is a fun way to exercise. It is a very funny and loving dance where it has no rules but a comedy piece of dance and very popular in today dance, carried out as a dance.
Hip-hop – performed mostly to hip-hop music, this urban dance style can involve breaking, popping, locking and free styling. It is commonly seen in the western countries. A total craze among the people there and a street dance fight is commonly seen.
Jazz – a high-energy dance style involving kicks, leaps and turns to the beat of the music. With long socks on legs and short pants, this dance is practised lots to get the body fit and flexible for the styles. Strength of leg muscle is the most important role.
Pole dancing – has become increasingly popular as a form of exercise. It involves sensual dancing with a vertical pole, and requires muscle endurance, coordination, and upper- and lower-body strength.
Salsa – involving a mixture of Caribbean, Latin American and African influences, salsa is usually a partner dance and emphasises rhythms and sensuality.
Square-dancing – a type of folk dancing where four couples dance in a square pattern, moving around each other and changing partners.
Tap dancing – focuses on timing and beats. The name originates from the tapping sounds made when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch the ground.

Flexibility: Yes. Most dance-inspired workouts include moves that improve flexibility. It is the foremost factor required to dance. Have a stiff body? Here you are going to loosen up your body and have a flexible and well-shaped.
Aerobic: Yes. Dancing raises your heart rate. The more up-tempo the dance style, the better it is for your heart. This dance has a special style which not only increases your heart rate but also burns your calories and gives the body a shape.
Strength: Yes. You won’t be lifting weights, but your body weight counts, helping to build muscle strength. This dance is basically to improve your muscle strength, to make you an expert in stunts and have control over your weight while performing them, without the strength you will not be able to perform any stunts which everyone dreams to.
Sport: No. You can enter dance competitions, but dance can be purely social or artistic. Wow! Well worse in dance now? Thinking to enter a dance competition? Good ideas but only do it, if you are not a busy person. Still remember that dance was an exercise for you so not for competitions but for social and artistic purposes.
Low-Impact: Yes. Dancing can be a high-or low-impact workout depending on the style of dancing. There are many styles but if you are the beginner prefer for a low impact dance. Your body is not so suitable for a high impact dance right now! Than as you become comfortable switch yourself to a high impact dance. Go slowly but be steady!
